Eilidh Pirie works primarily with soft pastels to create large-scale figure drawings, typically self-portraits. Originally from Aberdeenshire, she is currently based in Dundee, where she graduated with a BA Fine Art (Hons) from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.

Pirie’s most recent series of works challenge historical depictions of reclining Women in Western art. Established imagery is reimagined in these self-portraits, granting status and prominence to the female subject.

Pirie showcases the breadth, versatility and variety of soft pastel by experimenting with different drawing surfaces. In this series, bedsheets and reclaimed fabrics replace canvas, enhancing the softness and warmth of the works.
