katie mcgroarty
Katie McGroarty (she/her) is an oil painter originally from West Dunbartonshire, but has been based in Dundee since 2021. After her BA (Hons) in Intermedia from the Edinburgh College of Art, McGroarty completed an MFA in Art and Humanities at DJCAD in 2022, choosing Dundee due to it’s prominent working class population and history. Katie’s work looks at the intersections of gender, class and sectarianism, power and spectacle, as well as public and private domains, all investigated through domestic objects found typically in working class homes. McGroarty is currently an oil painter although has previously worked in illustration, installation, sculpture and acrylics. After her MFA at DJCAD, Katie joined the operational committee of Generator Projects from Oct 2023 til Nov 2024, although left before her full term, and founded the Dundee Artists Database in January of 2024.
