Sophie Mathews explores the relationships within the homely environments using her mum’s way of creating through hobbies such as quilting, embroidery and sewing. Intertwining the textile elements through embroidery thread to enhance her still life inspired paintings showcasing a moment or simply items within her home as an adult. Combining her childhood memories of her mum surrounded by materials, threads and sewing baskets with her own independency of adulthood and moving on through life. Becoming more of a process led artist focusing on slowing down the process with stitching and creating a large-scale textile piece that holds hand embroidered sketches that have been taken from her surroundings.
